Much like the temperature in Phoenix, our sitemeter has reached the triple digit mark! (But it's a DRY heat)
The century mark.

"Four", for those of you TRON geeks converting from binary to decimal. You know, Jeff Bridges seemed nice, but what was up Bruce Boxleitner's ass? But I digest...

CA Supreme Court Sides with Pres Obama on Gay Marriage

In a ruling Tuesday widely hailed as a significant endorsement of President Obama's long-standing position, the Supreme Court of California ruled in a narrow 6 to 1 decision that Proposition 8, a constitutional amendment defining a valid marriage in California as being between a man and a woman, is a valid constitutional amendment defining marriage in California.

Supporters of Proposition 8 responded to the ruling by stating, "Well, duh."

The Proposition was passed narrowly by California voters in November 2008. The margin was razor thin, with 52% in favor of the amendment and 48% against. The proposition reversed an earlier California Supreme Court ruling in May of 2008. In that decision, the court ruled overwhelmingly, 4 to 3, to reverse Proposition 22, a voter initiative defining marriage as between a man and a woman that passed narrowly with 61% of the vote in 2000.

Speaking with reports, the Spokesperson for Gays said, "Obviously we are disappointed. We have been and remain opposed to the opposition to gay marriage.

"We were against Proposition 8 specifically because the issue of defining marriage is simply too important to be left in the hands of average voters, who may not fully understand the complex sociopolitical and sexoeconomical ramifications of not changing what the term marriage has meant for the last 2000 plus years."

Opponents of the proposition argued, unsuccessfully, that the constitutional amendment was not a constitutional amendment, and that the constitution could not be amended to define marriage as between a man and a woman because doing so would be unconstitutional.

Although the court decision was a setback, Gays remain optimistic. "We still have President Obama in the White House and his views on gay rights are well known and well defined. Because he has such a strong, consistent history of consistently taking strong, unwavering stands on controversial, important social issues, he represents our best opportunity to reverse the discriminatory and divisive policies of the previous administration, specifically the signing of the Defense of Marriage Act and the military's Don't Ask Don't Tell policy."

When contacted, Miss California, Carrie Prejean, responded "No Comment." But she said it with that kind of ironic tone of voice and a little smirk on her face that means "Ha! Guess I was right after all."

The Wait is Over 5/17

I was 4 years old when Captain Kirk and his crew began slumming through the galaxies. It took only 3 years (and an undesirable time slot) for the original series to burn itself out. Nevertheless, a legion of devoted fans was created, and a Cash-cow was born!

Warp forward to 2009. Can we bust the mold, remake it, and do this all over again?
In this viewer's humble opinion,... Mooooo!.

This is what works and what doesn't about this latest Star Trek reincarnation.

Works- Sex appeal and a strong Ensemble. Unless you've been vacationing on Risa for the past year, you've probably noticed that the new Cast is smolderingly hot. Kirk, Uhura, Bones, Chekov, Sulu, and even Spock, reek with raw sensuality. Less so with Scotty who's function appears to be primarily comic, but let's be realistic,... he IS an Engineer!

Did someone say Pon farr?? Is that Uhuru and Spock Mack-ing on the transporter pad? Truth be known, this made me uncomfortable.

Leonard Nimoy notes that the question of Spock's extraordinary sex appeal emerged "almost any time I talked to someone in the press...I never give it a try to deal with the question of Mr. Spock as a sex symbol is silly.

Len, you're on the money. Be careful Paramount!

Works - Special Effects. To be expected in a movie of the genre. Yet,... it delivers.

Weaknesses- Temporal Story Lines "Does anybody know what time it is?"
OK, here's the secret in the sauce,... if you want to save favorite characters from the same old grind of a 1960's series, simply mix in a dash of Temporal anomaly and start re-writing your time line. This is a solution that Kirk would be proud of... albeit a "cheating" one.... more of that when you see the movie.

So, if you're long standing Trekkie, take the $7 out of your pocket and go see the movie.(... unless you're a Ferengi, in which case you'll end up waiting for a bootlegged copy about a year from now).

We Grow Them Big Here

These are lemons. Not grapefruits. We picked these from my backyard on Saturday. As you can see, they are Teh Mutant. But actually they are very tasty, as my mom will attest. Oh, it was 108 degrees here yesterday. Forecast is more of the same. Be happy if you live anywhere other than here. We'll get our revenge in 5 months.

Happy Birthday

I’m very fortunate to share my birthday, May 15, with someone special: my Aunt Carolyn. It has always given us a special connection and so today I wish her a very happy birthday. She is a warm, kindhearted person. She has been blessed with children and grandchildren that she absolutely adores. She is a devoted sister to my mom (who is visiting with her right now), and she was a gentle, loving caregiver to my grandmother during her final days.

Happy birthday,
Love Keith

Take a Lap....

When I get older losing my hair
many years from now
will you still be sending me a valentine
birthday greeting, bottle of wine
If I'd been out till quarter to three
would you lock the door
Will you still need me
Will you still feed me
When I'm sixty-four

I could be handy mending a fuse

when your lights have gone
You can knit a sweater by the fireside
Sunday mornings, go for a ride
Doing the garden, digging the weeds
Who could ask for more
Will you still need me
Will you still feed me
When I'm sixty-four

Send me a postcard, drop me a line
stating point of view
indicate precisely what you mean to say

yours sincerely, wasting away
Give me your answer
fill in a form, mine forever more
Will you still need me
Will you still feed me
When I'm sixty-four

Presidential pass by

I rode the light rail back from downtown Phoenix this afternoon. It was packed packed packed. And dozens more wanting to board at each stop between downtown and ASU campus in Tempe. The president is giving the commencement speech this evening. Give the man his due, he can draw a large crowd. Everyone seemed in good spirits.

I must say, I am pleased at how the new light rail system is being used, especially for events like this as well as baseball games. It's nice to have a viable option to driving downtown. I wish the expansion plans were faster. Anyone living in Mesa or Tempe, give it a try and see if you like it.

Some thoughts on Birthdays.
No names will be mentioned.

Birthdays are nature's way of telling us to eat more cake

A true friend remembers your birthday but not your age

Nostalgia ain't what it used to be.

Don't worry about temptation, as you grow older, it starts avoiding you.

Forget about the past, you can't change it. Forget about the future, you can't predict it. Forget about the present, I didn't get you one.

Artificial intelligence is a wonderful thing. I told my
computer that today is my birthday, and it
said I needed an upgrade.

You are only young once, but you can stay immature indefinitely.

Attention to health is a birthday party's greatest hindrance.

Everything has been figured out,
except what to do after the cake is eaten.

Don't take life too seriously. You won't get out alive, so pass the cake.

Mommie Dearest

Hi Mom,

Congratulations on your special Day.
You been through it all with me since the very beginning.
You've known me before I even knew myself.

Thank you for your patient guidance through my youth, and the gift of a wondeful childhood. Thank you for your unwavering support.

The Jacarandas are in Bloom

One of my favorite times of the year in the Phoenix area. And this is my favorite tree during this time. I think the jacaranda tree is the prettiest when it is in bloom. It only blooms in the spring and any other time of the year you would walk right past and not even notice it. But this is its time to shine. These purple blooms are the sign that the triple digit temps are here to stay. So now we grit our teeth, wait for October, and stay inside as much as possible -- except when we are in the pool.

Busy Boy, and a little bit about me

Well I see my partner-in-blog has been very busy! He was very kind to put up the Simpsons and Duran Duran widgets. I am the big Simpsons and Duran Duran fan. Although not as much anymore for the Simpsons as I used to be. But that's a long story for another post.
*cough* jumped the shark *cough*

Still a major Duran Duran fan, have been since 1985, including their two side projects: Power Station and Arcadia. They have always been my favorite band and I was fortunate to see them perform here in Phoenix five times since 1989. They put on a great show each time, very entertaining and high quality performances.

The Ella Fitzgerald fan belongs to my SO. I'll let him talk about that.

That's a little bit about me. Thanks for listening

Gay Marriage

I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it. - Voltaire

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people
peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances"
